I am a big fan of Zombie movies…but not ALL Zombie movies. A lot of really crappy movies are made under this genre, much like Christian movies, or inspirational titles…seems like people are willing to endure a bad movie if it falls under a very niche genre. But I digress.
Below is a list of some of my favorite zombie movies, with links (mostly linking to IMDB).
- Night of the Living Dead (1989 version) – slow, lumbering zombies, in my opinion, a perfect execution of the classic genre. – on Netflix Watch Instantly
- 28 Days Later – freaking fast, scary zombies. The way this movie begins is really cool.
- Dawn of the Dead (new one) – also freaking fast, scary zombies. I like the idea of a mall being the last beacon of hope.
- Shawn of the Dead – very funny movie, lots of comedy elements mixed with a few moments of real Zombie conventions.
- Land of the Dead – very interesting view, almost Zombie sympathetic. Set post-zombie-apocalypse.
- Quarantine – Terrific acting, really great camera work, the most convincing case for zombies yet. Although, I do like the idea of walking dead:
Honorable Mentions:
- Walking Dead Series – I. love. this. series. The Walking Dead is to Night of the Living Dead what Band of Brothers is to Saving Private Ryan. It’s truly awesome.
- Fido – VERY interesting, not scary, Zombies were more a subject of the film than the enemy. – on Netflix Watch Instantly
- Evil Dead 2; Dead by Dawn – I’m not sure why I like this movie so much. It’s really a parody of horror films, kind of falls into zombie genre…but it’s just wacky, almost slapstick. Don’t watch expecting to be scared, only slightly entertained.
There are several other films I want to see…but I don’t have the time to sift through all the crap, and my wife doesn’t dig Zombie movies like I do. Maybe you could suggest some of your favorites?
